Tras crecer en las categorías inferiores del Riga y llegar al primer equipo, fichó por el Barça en 2015, alternando con el filial. En medio de la crisis del equipo, no tuvo opción de progresar pero su potencial estaba intacto tras haber coqueteado con ser 1ª ronda del Draft NBA en 2017, pero no se presentó finalmente. A pesar de las pocas oportunidades de juego en 2018, fue seleccionado en el draft 2018 en 2ª ronda por los Nets, que le hicieron contrato inmediatamente. El Barça ha retenido sus derechos en caso de volver a Europa.
